I have often been intrigued, as many people have, by the stories surrounding headless horsemen and other ghostly riders. Phantom Rider is a galop, which is an energetic musical piece characterized by its rapid tempo and driving rhythms that resemble the gait of a horse. Galops are often called “screamers,” meant to excite the audience either at the beginning or end of a concert.
